Attachment 2
Design Features, Best Management Practices and Conditions of Approval
1. General
• The land owner would be notified prior to implementation of the proposed project.
• GCC will comply with the standards provided at 43 CFR 3484. 1 (Performance Standardsfor
Exploration) and with all applicable requirements of the surface management agency.
* Vehicles and equipment would be cleaned prior to arrival at the drilling sites.
• No construction or routine maintenance activities would occur during periods when soil is too wet to
support construction equipment adequately. If such equipment creates ruts in excess of 6 inches deep,
then soil shall be deemed too wet.
• All employees, contractors, and sub -contractors of the project will be informed by the project
proponent that cultural sites arc to be avoided by all personnel, personal vehicles, and company
equipment; and that it is illegal to collect, damage, or disturb cultural resources; and that such
activities are punishable by criminal and or administrative penalties under the provisions of the
Archaeological Resources Protection Act (16 USC 470aa-mm).
GCC or contracted personnel are required to have a safety meeting and be informed of potential
interaction with livestock and wildlife and precautions required during construction activities at
drilling locations.
• Vehicular traffic would be restricted to the authorized areas and existing roads.
• Straw wattles would be utilized, as necessary, to prevent erosion.
If any hazardous wasted are used or encountered during exploration activities, they would be
handled and disposed of according to federal law. Any no -hazardous solid waste generated in the
proposeddrilling sites would be stored in appropriate containers and disposed of at a permitted
facility when necessary.
• A red-tailed hawk (BllleojamaiceIIsis) nest located within 500 feet ofthe proposed GCC -14-01 drill-
hole, would be monitored for nesting activity during construction/drilling. Ifthe nest is active,
construction and drilling operations could be put off until the young have fledged. This would
eliminate the chances of the nest being impacted.
2.
