Scuive - 2.05.6 <br />anysignificant alteration of surface flow patterns or drainage of surface water flows into underground <br />• mine workings. In addition, OMI may az necessary take certain specific anions, including grading <br />and revegetarion of any significant surface subsidence cracks to assure that surface flows do not enter <br />the mine workings. Upon completion of mining and related aciivities, mine openings will be sealed <br />and backfilled to further preclude any potential ground water discharge or surface water inflows in <br />mine ponal areas or boreholes. <br />As previously discussed in the introduction to this section, plans for OMI's operations include <br />standard hydrologic controk and mitigation measures that are designed to prevent significant changes <br />in the quantity and quality of surface and ground water resources, preserve existing hydrologic <br />functions, comply with regulatory requiremenu, and limit adverse impacu to surface water or ground <br />water users. These measures include: <br />• Limiting surface disturbance areas <br />• Proper design, construction, and grading of facilities areaz and roads <br />• Consttunion, operation, and maintenance of drainage and sediment control structures to <br />divert undisturbed runoff around disturbance areas, collect and route disturbed area <br />runoff to sedimentation ponds to allow settlement of suspended solids, and facilitate any <br />treatment which maybe necessary <br />• Lhilization of localized erosion control measures in any areaz having high erosion <br />potential <br />• Initiation of reclamation operations az soon az practical following completion of mining <br />or when the azsociated facilities are no longer required to support ongoing mining and <br />related operations <br />• Effective reclamation to m~r,~m~~P gradients, reestablish surface drainage patterns, restore <br />pre-Honing runoff and infiltration characteristics, and establish an effective and self- <br />sustaining vegetative cover <br />• Poso-reclamation land use management <br />During arrive operations, the designed drainage and sediment control system along with appropriate <br />surface grading and stabilization measures will be the primary mechanism used to provide effenive <br />erosion and sediment control A detailed discussion of this system u presented in Section 2.05.3, <br />Mine Facilities; the locations and configuration of drainage and sediment control structures are shown <br />on the Drainage and Sediment Control Plan Map, (Maps 2.05-M4) and the Pond Maps, (Map 2.05- <br />MS Series); and design information and calculations are provided in Exhibit 2.05-E3, Drainage and <br />Sediment Control Plan. <br />Following completion of mining operations reclamation of surface disturbance areas, restoration of <br />effective drainage, and revegetation az described in Section 2.05.4, Reclamation Plan, will be the <br />primary means of establishing both effective short and long-term erosion and sediment control. <br />Cumtilative Hydrologic Impacts -Ground water impacts resulting from the planned mining and <br />related activities will be minimal due to limited ground water occurrence, low overall permeabilities <br />and consequent limitations on the effective area of influence, and the lack of beneficial ground water <br />• use in the area. Similarly, surface disturbance associated with OMI's mitring and related operations <br />will involve such a small area that porential training-refaced surface water impacts will be negligible. <br />Any potential surface water impacts will be effectively mitigated through effenive control of mine <br />water supply withdrawals, operation of a comprehensive drainage and sediment control system, <br />PR04 2.05-98 Revised August 2000 <br />
