RECLAMATION PLAN EXHIBIT F(CONT)
growth medium will be spread on the seed bed. The seed bed will
be smoothed of large clods and worked until moderately fine . The
surface will be left fairly rough where seed is to be broadcast .
SEEDING TIME
The grass seed will be planted between March 1 and October 30 of
any given year. The time of planting will be controlled by when
the seedbed areas are ready for planting.
GRASSES
The grass seed mixture which the operator plans to use has been
recommended by the SCS and is as follows :
PROPOSED SEED MIX
Species % in mix Lbs. PLS/Acre
Alkali Sacaton (local) 20 0 .2
Blue grama (Covington) 20 0 .4
Sideoats grama (Vaughan) 30 2 .7
Western Wheatgrass (Arriba) 20 3 .2
White Prairie clover 10 0.7
Totals 100% 7.2*
* The number of Pounds-Pure Live Seed (#PLS) shown will be doubled if broadcast. Unchanged for
mix approved in 1977.
WEED CONTROL
The revegetated areas will be monitored closely each spring for
the first two years after planting to determine if weeds are
invading the area . A weed control plan is supplied in the
Appendix of this packet to address weed control on the mine .
Total eradication of weeds from the site is not necessary desir-
able, so the operator will be using controls on the noxious weeds
and letting the rest grow in select areas to help shade the newly
planted grasses and provide some wildlife cover.
IRRIGATION
No irrigation is planned for revegetated area in the pit, it
tends to make the vegetation dependent on water and does not
promote a vegetation cover that is diverse and capable of self
regeneration. The landowner may wish to irrigate the slopes with
water they have available for that purpose .
WETLANDS
There are no wetlands on the site since all of the water areas
are currently in a reclamation permit .
15 (revised 4/30/2018)
