Introduction
The King Pit(M-1987-012) is located approximately 16.5 miles northeast of Alamosa, CO in
Alamosa County at an elevation of 7757 feet. The King Pit was permitted in 1987 at 22 acres
with a 112 construction materials permit for the purpose of mining gravel. In 1994 an
Amendment with the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DRMS) granted the King Pit
an acreage increase to 88.65 acres. The property is owned by Henry and/or Rock I. Southway
with mineral rights owned by the above mentioned members of the Southway family as well as
the U.S. Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The King Pit is operated by Southway
Construction Company, Inc.
This amendment will add 243.7 acres to the existing 100.6 acre permit area for a total permit
area of 344.3 acres.
King Pit GreK i ewicki aaa Asaaciritx Pl.ld"
February 2018 i-1
