Water Quality Monitoring Plan Climax Molybdenum Company
Version. R4 Permit No. M-1977-493
5.1.1 Arkansas River Watershed
The shallow, alluvial POC well within the Arkansas River Watershed is ARwell. This well is located near
the Climax property boundary, downgradient from the Arkansas Pond.
Table 5-1 lists the NPLs established for ARwell using CBSG table values for all parameters with the
exception of manganese. As presented in Table B-1.3 in Appendix B-1, observed manganese
concentrations in ARwell generally exceed the secondary drinking water standard for manganese listed in
Table 2 of the CBSG. An NPL for manganese is not proposed at this time.
Table 5-1 -ARwell Numeric Protection Limits
NPL Basis
Analytical Parameter Frequency NPL(mg/L) (see notes)
Cadmium,dissolved Quarterly 0.005 Table 1,CBSG
Copper,dissolved Quarterly 0.2 Table 3,CBSG
Iron,dissolved Quarterly 0.3 Table 2,CBSG
Manganese,dissolved Quarterly TBD TBD
Molybdenum,dissolved Quarterly 0.210 Table 1,CBSG
Zinc,dissolved Quarterly 2.0 Table 3,CBSG
pH Quarterly 6.5—8.5 Table 2,CBSG
Sulfate(SO4) Quarterly 250 Table 2,CBSG
Total Dissolved Solids(TDS) Quarterly 400 Table 4,CBSG
Fluoride,dissolved Quarterly 2.0 Table 3,CBSG
NOTES:
Table 1, CBSG: Domestic Use Human Health Standards
Table 2, CBSG: Domestic Use Secondary Drinking Water Standards
Table 3, CBSG: Agricultural Use Standards
Table 4, CBSG: TDS Water Quality Standards
TBD• To be determined;an NPL for manganese will be established following the WQCC process referenced
above and in consultation with DRMS and WQCD.
A bedrock POC well(ARK-MW-001 D)was constructed in September 2012, adjacent to the existing shallow
ARwell. The baseline data set for this well are presented as Table B-1.4 in Appendix B. Table 5-2 lists the
NPLs established for ARK-MW-001 D. Manganese was observed on several occasions at concentrations
greater than the secondary drinking water standard listed in Table 2 of the CBSG. Over the period of record
from the fall of 2012 through the fourth quarter of 2017, the average manganese concentration was 0.051
mg/I.
Table 5-2-ARK-MW-001 D Numeric Protection Limits
NPL Basis
Analytical Parameter Frequency NPL(mg/L) (see notes)
Cadmium,dissolved Quarterly 0.005 Table 1,CBSG
Copper,dissolved Quarterly 0.2 Table 3,CBSG
Iron,dissolved Quarterly 0.3 Table 2,CBSG
Manganese,dissolved Quarterly TBD TBD
Molybdenum,dissolved Quarterly 0.210 Table 1,CBSG
EPP—Appendix C May 2018 23
