is stable at has a slope of 1.3 to 1.0 (Horizontal to Vertical) The State standard of 3.0 to 1.0
(Horizontal to Vertical) is flatter then the natural hill side thus it is impossible to attain in this
operation. Since the waste rock grows vegetation rapidly at the angle of repose and historic
waste rock pile are stable and have abundant vegetation, it is planned to plant the final waste
rock piles at the angle of repose. It will be difficult to keep vegetation from growing on the
waste rock as it is placed.
Revegetation Measures
Revegetation of the mine site is encouraged as mining and exploration activities are taking
place. Seasonal applications of a high-altitude grass seed mix is applied to newly deposited
waste rock and disturbed areas. The specific mix used includes the following species and
proportions:
Mountain Mix by Arkansas Valley Seed Company
20% Cereal Rye
20% Tetraploid Perennial Rye Bunchgrass
15% Forage
15% Mountain
15% Orchardgrass Bunchgrass
10% Timothy
5% Alsike
This mixture germinates in 7 to 21 days and provides excellent top soil stabilization. The mix
is drilled into the waste rock via hand raking and is broadcast at a rate of greater than 5
pounds per acre. Seeding is done seasonally and is planned to be completed in a similar
fashion at the end of the project live.
In addition, Aspen trees are planted or encouraged to continue to grow in the waste rock pile.
They have an excellent ability to stabilize due to the aggressive root system. The spacing of
the Aspen tree planting is one seedling every 15 feet. Aspens are growing very well in the
historic waste piles from the Poorman and other nearby mines.
Lodge Pole tree seedlings will also be planted at the end of the mine life. These will be
planted on 20 -foot centers on disturbed areas that are not needed for the purpose of turning
around a vehicle.
No mulch or fertilizer will be used for the reclamation of this project.
• Final Reclamation Activities
Reclamation of the mine site will include the removal of the metal shed, air compressor,
generator and antique school bus. In addition, any supplies stored next to the compressor will
also be removed. Next the rail between the portal and the edge of the waste pile will be either
removed from the mine site or placed inside of the portal of the mine adit behind the locked
door. The wood from the dump pocket and rail ties will be removed and placed in a role off
dumpster and hauled away.
The top of the un -vegetated waste pile will be graded to allow a smooth transition between
the flat area near the portal and the side of the waste pile. As much of eh top of the pile will
7
