N <br />Collom Gulch — The water quality in Collom Gulch (sample locations UCG and LCG) contains calcium - <br />magnesium or calcium -sodium anions; and bicarbonate -chloride -sulfate cations. The total dissolved <br />solids content ranged from 310 mg/L at to 630 mg/L at UCG, and from 570 mg/L to 830 mg/L at LCG, <br />indicating an increasing trend in TDS concentration in the downstream direction. Average and individual <br />sample TDS values for LCG exceeded the USEPA secondary drinking water standard for TDS of 500 <br />mg/L. The average TDS value for UCG fell below the standard, but some individual values exceeded the <br />standard. When present in detectable quantities, the total recoverable iron concentration for individual <br />samples fell well below the USEPA aquatic life standard of 1.0 mg/L, and the secondary drinking water <br />standard of 0.30 mg/L. Average manganese concentrations at LCG of 0.07 mg/L exceeded the secondary <br />drinking water standard of 0.05 mg/L. <br />Little Collom Gulch — Little Collom Gulch was dry for all attempted sampling events. No water quality <br />data was produced for sampling point LLCG. <br />Jubb Creek — Based on two sample events, the water quality in the mainstem of Jubb Creek (sample <br />location CJC) is dominated by calcium -sodium anions; and a mixture of chloride -sulfate -bicarbonate <br />cations. Water quality in the West Fork of Jubb Creek (WFJC) exhibits a dominance of calcium and <br />magnesium anions; and chloride, sulfate, and bicarbonate cations. The total dissolved solids content <br />ranged from 1,750 mg/L at to 1,820 mg/L at CJC, and from 1,030 mg/L to 1,080 mg/L at WFJC, <br />indicating an increasing trend in TDS concentration in the downstream direction. Average and individual <br />sample TDS values for all monitoring locations exceeded the USEPA secondary drinking water standard <br />for TDS of 500 mg/L. When present in detectable quantities, the total recoverable iron concentration in <br />individual samples fell well below the USEPA aquatic life standard of 1.0 mg/L. Manganese <br />concentrations fell below the secondary drinking water standard of 0.05 mg/L. The East Fork of Jubb <br />Creek was dry for all attempted sampling events. No water quality data was produced for sampling point <br />EFJC. <br />Springs and Seeps — Springs and seeps had variable water quality, with calcium -magnesium or calcium - <br />sodium anions, and bicarbonate -chloride -sulfate or chloride -sulfate -bicarbonate cations. Total dissolved <br />solids ranged from 700 mg/L to 1700 mg/L, always in excess of the 500 mg/L secondary drinking water <br />standard. One spring (V25) in Collom Gulch had elevated levels of both manganese and iron, both <br />exceeding the secondary drinking water standards. <br />Additional water quality data for these and other water monitoring locations may be found in the Annual <br />Hydrologic Reports submitted by Colowyo. <br />2.04.7 (3) Alternative Water Supply <br />Colowyo's proposed mining operations in the Collom permit expansion area are not expected to cause <br />significant contamination, diminution, or interruption of surface or ground water resources, based on <br />information provided in section 2.05.6. The potential diminution that may result during mining is within <br />the water rights held by Colowyo.
