April 17, 2018
COLORADO
Parks and Wildlife
Department of Natural Resources
Ms. Robin Reilley
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (CDRMS)
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Trapper Mine Five Year Permit Term Mine Plan Update Permit Revision Application
No. 9 (PR -9)
Dear Ms. Reilley:
Thank you for giving Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) an opportunity to comment on the
Trapper Mine Permit Revision Application No. 9 (PR -9) for their 5 -year permit term mine plan
update.
It is our understanding that, if approved, Trapper Mine will disturb approximately 564 acres for
routine mining operations. Mining will continue in the L Pit, and the N Pit will be re -opened. It is
also our understanding that reclamation activities will continue in the Kimber, Lancaster and
Ashmore pits per the M10 series maps. All proposed disturbance activities will occur within
previously disturbed areas, and the proposed disturbance features will occupy areas within the
approved disturbance footprint for Trapper Mine.
CPW has worked collaboratively with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSMRE) and Trapper Mine to develop site-specific mitigation that will help
reduce, minimize or avoid impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat associated with this project.
These mitigation practices have been documented via other correspondence documents with
OSMRE, and CPW believes that the proposed mining activities fall within the scope of
anticipated impacts that were considered and included in these documents.
CPW appreciates the opportunity to provide comments for Permit Revision Application No. 9.
For additional information, please contact Brett Smithers, Land Use Specialist at 970-878-6069.
Sincerely,
Bill deVergie, Area Wildlife Manager
Cc.
