As per our operating plan, highlights include how
to prospect and be successful in the Pikes Peak Batholith of Colorado and beyond, how to
begin to educate oneself on mining law and proper land use and access, how to research
mining claims, how to prospect legally, leave no trace outdoor ethics and how to be a good
steward of the land. The service itself will consist of meeting students in Sedalia, Colorado, at
7AM each class day, then carpooling in vehicles to the meeting area at the Topaz Point picnic
area on Rampart Range Road, parking vehicles in designated areas. Then the group is guided
by foot approximately one mile downhill to the west of Topaz Point, to the Devil May Care lode
mining claim, which is the site of the class. Class instruction will continue for a minimum of 6
hours weather and daylight permitting. Students will then be led back along the same route
used to access the class site, to the meeting area and their vehicles. Any overnight camping or
lodging is at the discretion of, and the sole responsibility of, each student. It is the responsibility
of Students taking two day courses to be at the Topaz Point meeting area at the prearranged
time on the second class day.
Client base/Audience: Backpackers, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts, other guides and
outfitters, amateur rockhounds or aspiring professionals, enthusiasts, or others who wish to
experience and see the outdoors, the forest, and rocks in a new way. These excavations will not always remain open, as the students
will be taught how and why to backfill excavations. Lost Creek Mining continually monitors all
aspects of the mining claim, ensuring maximum resource preservation. We take pride in keeping
a very clean and orderly mining claim, keeping our excavations to a minimum, and attempting to
maintain a completely natural environment.
