C-2009-087, operated by Peabody Sage Creek <br />Mining, LLC (PSCM). Kevin Copeland representing PSCM accompanied the inspection. The weather was clear. <br />Some areas of the mine were not accessible due to spring melt conditions. Maintenance items are bulleted below. <br />The Sage Creek Mine is currently in Temporary Cessation. <br />FISH and WILDLIFE – Rule 4.18: <br /> Many animal tracks, including Elk were present on site. A few elk were observed during the inspection. <br /> <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; <br />Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; <br />Drainage – Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br /> The upper sump, lower sump, pond 2, and Pecoco pond were observed and holding water and flowing <br />from discharge points. Pond 3 was holding water and discharging, Pond 4 was observed from above and appears to <br />be discharging. Road into pond 4 was not accessible. NPDES #7, which is at a ditch near the office that was not <br />discharging. On-going pond maintenance items are listed below in the general mine compliance section. Culverts <br />in accessible areas of the mine were mostly clear (exceptions are noted below), ditches along roads were clear. <br /> <br />The broken pipe coming out of the bottom of Pond 2, as noted in the complete inspections in June 2017 and <br />August 2017, and October 2017 remains in the process of being repaired. No water was discharging from the pipe <br />at the time of inspection. The area around the pipe was dry.
