EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN
1. General Mining Plan
The property boundary was surveyed on-site and the permit area was surveyed prior to any site
disturbance. Map C-1 shows the Mining plan.
Mining occurred on 95.8 acres of the Alma Placer site since 1868 in the areas shown as `pre-law
area' on Map C-1. These areas are included within the permit area. Various tunneling,
hydraulicking, sluicing and other methods were employed during historic mining of the Alma
Placer site.No topsoil was salvaged from past operations and no final grading was completed in
the pre-law areas. Future mining will progress to the southeast, in what are referred to as post-
law areas. Map F-1 shows the Reclamation plan.
The current mining plan revised in 2004 via Amendment 4 includes two important benefits:
1. Many pre-law(1977) gravel piles will be mined and removed from the site. These piles
have steep slopes in many cases and make a relatively unusable landform. Their removal
will make a flatter and more easily reclaimed surface.
2. Pre-law stock piles were unable to vegetate due to a lack of fines for plants to take root
in. Gravel processing and gold mining will produce fines that will be salvaged and
stockpiled to reclaim old areas after they are mined.New mine areas will salvage all
existing topsoil.
Gravel geology of the Alma Placer is best described as the upper reach of the South Platte River
in Pleistocene glacial moraine gravels mixed with limited Quaternary gravels. Sand beds and
clay beds are interspersed with the alluvium. Depths of this material range from 10' to 60' within
the permit area. These gravels overlay Paleozoic sedimentary rocks and underlying Precambrian
schist and gneiss bedrock with Tertiary-Cretaceous intrusive volcanics that are also present in the
mountains on both sides of the permit area. Minor stratification within gravel horizons is
observed and includes boulders of 10"-15" size thought to be deposited as the product of glacial
melting.
Alma Placer Mine
December 2017 D-1
