All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations <br />initiate from this date of filing. <br /> <br />PR-15 seeks to expand the permit boundary to the south (adding 2,620 acres to the existing permit <br />area of 17,234.9 acres), and to change the mine plan. Three additional longwall panels are <br />proposed, the projected area of which is approximately 760 acres comprising 50% federally owned <br />coal and 50% privately owned. An additional 380 acres (100% federally owned) are projected as <br />potential panel extensions based on future exploration. 25 Mine Ventilation Boreholes (MVBs) are <br />proposed, with drill pads and access roads. The applicant is proposing additional surface <br />disturbance outside of the area currently approved for disturbance. <br /> <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles East of Paonia, <br />Colorado.
