Alternative design criteria and specifications have been approved for use in sediment pond
design and/or construction. This decision is based on a thorough analytical demonstration
by a qualified professional engineer that the resulting sediment pond will be
environmentally sound and structurally stable, taking into consideration physical,
climatological, and other characteristics of the site (4.05.6(11)).
Acid -Forming and Toxic -Forming Spoil
No acid-forming or toxic -forming materials have been identified at the Bowie No. 1 Mine.
Imooundments
All site impoundments are in compliance with Rule 4.05.9. Refer to Section III, C, above.
Surface and Ground Water Monitoring
The applicant will conduct monitoring of ground water in a manner approved by the
Division. The ground water monitoring plan is found in the approved PAP, Volume IA,
Section 2.05.6, and Volume 8.
The applicant will conduct monitoring of surface water in a manner approved by the
Division. T he monitoring plan is found in the approved PAP, Volume 1 A, Section 2.05.6,
and Volumes 8 and 8A.
Transfer of Wells
The transfer to the Bowie No. 2 Mine of four exploration wells and portions of their
associated access roads, along with their reclamation liability, was approved in Permit
Revision No. 4. The four explorationwulls are BRL-1-03-01, BRL-1-08-1, BRL-1-08-04
and 2010-2.
Discharge of Water into an Underground Mine
Discharge of water into underground workings will not occur.
Stream Buffer Zones
No disturbance is anticipated within 100 feet of a stream with a biological community.
Probable Hydrologic Consequences
Ground Water
The Bowie No. 1 Mine has the potential to affect groundwaters in three ways - degradation
of water quality, mine consumption of water, and dewatering of insignificant bedrock
aquifers. Each of these cases will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs.
24
