Alternative design criteria and specifications have been approved for use in sediment pond <br />design and/or construction. This decision is based on a thorough analytical demonstration <br />by a qualified professional engineer that the resulting sediment pond will be <br />environmentally sound and structurally stable, taking into consideration physical, <br />climatological, and other characteristics of the site (4.05.6(11)). <br />Acid -Forming and Toxic -Forming Spoil <br />No acid-forming or toxic -forming materials have been identified at the Bowie No. 1 Mine. <br />Imooundments <br />All site impoundments are in compliance with Rule 4.05.9. Refer to Section III, C, above. <br />Surface and Ground Water Monitoring <br />The applicant will conduct monitoring of ground water in a manner approved by the <br />Division. The ground water monitoring plan is found in the approved PAP, Volume IA, <br />Section 2.05.6, and Volume 8. <br />The applicant will conduct monitoring of surface water in a manner approved by the <br />Division. T he monitoring plan is found in the approved PAP, Volume 1 A, Section 2.05.6, <br />and Volumes 8 and 8A. <br />Transfer of Wells <br />The transfer to the Bowie No. 2 Mine of four exploration wells and portions of their <br />associated access roads, along with their reclamation liability, was approved in Permit <br />Revision No. 4. The four explorationwulls are BRL-1-03-01, BRL-1-08-1, BRL-1-08-04 <br />and 2010-2. <br />Discharge of Water into an Underground Mine <br />Discharge of water into underground workings will not occur. <br />Stream Buffer Zones <br />No disturbance is anticipated within 100 feet of a stream with a biological community. <br />Probable Hydrologic Consequences <br />Ground Water <br />The Bowie No. 1 Mine has the potential to affect groundwaters in three ways - degradation <br />of water quality, mine consumption of water, and dewatering of insignificant bedrock <br />aquifers. Each of these cases will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs. <br />24 <br />
