Limited Geological Evaluation
Exploratory Coring,Rose Red Granite Quarry
Lyons,Colorado
The test holes penetrated about 8 to 18 feet of overburden materials before encountered
relatively competent bedrock which extended to the depths explored. Groundwater was
not encountered at the time of drilling at the depths explored. Groundwater levels can
be expected to fluctuate, however, in response to annual and longer-term cycles of
precipitation, irrigation, surface drainage, land use, and the development of transient,
perched water conditions.
The overburden materials generally consisted of colluvium, grus, and weathered granite
rock that was generally highly fractured, relatively hard, and generally of a similar
composition to the relatively competent underlying rock. The `granite' rock encountered
generally appeared to be quartz monzonite based on visual observation of the
composition of the samples.
The percent recover of the rock generally ranged between 88 and 100 percent. The
Rock Quality Designation (RQD) of the cored material typically ranged between 88 and
100 percent. Lower RQDs were encountered in Test Hole 1where an RQD of 72 was
calculated for Run 6 of Test Hole 1 (41 to 46 feet below grade) and an RQD of 75 was
calculated for Run 5 (36 to 41 feet below grade). A summary of the average percent
recovery and RQD of the rock encountered for each test hole is presented below.
Additionally, the percent recovery and RQD for individual runs is presented after that.
AVERAGE PERCENT RECOVERY AND RQD
Test Hole Percent Recovery RQD
1 98 86
2 99 96
3 99 94
Job No. 17-3043 GROUND Engineering Consultants,Inc.
