It is probably subject to temperature increases, nutrient loading, and <br />siltation from the surrounding farms and ranches. No fish inventories for Dry Creek have <br />been undertaken. However, the aquatic habitat may be suitable for chubs, Gila spp.; shiners, <br />Notropis spp.; and suckers, Catostomus spp.; and, other rough fish." <br />Benthic invertebrates and periphyton were sampled in May and November 1974 in association with <br />Seneca Coal Company's application for Permit No. C-82-057 for the Seneca II -W Mine. Site D-3 was <br />located in Dry Creek approximately 5.0 miles upstream of the Loadout Permit Area and at an elevation <br />increase of only 160 feet. Because this is the only aquatic habitat data available on Dry Creek, the <br />sampling results from Site D-3 are considered representative of the reach of Dry Creek that bisects the <br />Permit Area and are summarized herein. Reference may be made to Attachment 11-2 for a description <br />of sampling methods and summary of results (this information duplicates Permit C-82-057 at Vol. 6, <br />Tab 11, pp. 12-13 and Table 11-24, 11-25, 11-33, 11-34 and 11-35). <br />Pool bottom fauna collected at Site D-3 in May 1974 was not abundant. Eight taxa representing five <br />orders of benthic invertebrates were captured using a dip net. The sample was dominated by baetid <br />mayflies with lessor catches of limnephilid caddisflies, simulids, and tupulids. The November sample <br />of pool bottom habitat also produced few organisms; 10 taxa representing nine orders of benthic <br />invertebrates were captured. Amphipods and Ephemeropterans (baetid mayflies) represented over 60 <br />percent of the relative abundance. A second sample of riffle habitat in November, 1974 revealed <br />greater numbers and diversity (21 taxa from 10 orders). The riffle sample was strongly dominated at <br />68.4 percent relative abundance by caddisflies, and primarily the genus Hydropsyche. Certain species <br />RN17-05 11-11 Revised 12/17 <br />
