4.0 SURFACE WATER
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site and thirteen active NPDES discharge sites during
2017. The stream site Flume Gulch (S-1) was sampled during June and September 2017 to
characterize spring flows at this location. Flow was observed at NPDES sites 001, 002, 011, 020
and 022 in 2017. Only site 002 had flow each month while sites 001 and 011 had flow all but three
of the months. Sites 020 and 022 had flow in only four and one times respectively during 2017.
Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also NPDES site 011. Sites were monitored monthly
throughout the year. Sites NPDES 008, 009, 017, 018, 019, 021, 023 and 024 did not discharge
during 2017. Maps No. 2-1 through 2-3 show the locations of these surface -water sites.
4.1 SURFACE -WATER FLOW
The 2008-2017 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C-1 represents instantaneous
measurements associated with NPDES water -quality sampling (see the attached CD in Appendix D
for all historical surface -water data). Recorded surface runoff was similar in 2017 to the 2016 flows
at the Trapper Mine even with the precipitation being above average.
Figures C-1 through C-3 present the instantaneous flows versus time for the Trapper NPDES
sites for 2017. There was flow during each of the monthly samples of 2017 at NPDES 001 except
for July through September samples. The high flow during sampling was only 90 and 287 gpm for
NPDES 001 and 002 respectively in 2017. Surface flow at NPDES 011 was observed during each
monthly sample, except for July through September with a peak of 132 gpm during the October
sampling (see Figure C-2). NPDES 020 had flow during four of the monthly measurements while
NPDES 022 had flow in October (see Figure C-3).
Trapper Mining Company 4-1
2017 Annual Report
