The 2017 field pH values for HI aquifer well GP -7 were near neutral, while well GP -8
(KLM) water had field pH values near 8.0 in 2017. The 3rd White Sandstone aquifer well GP -9
field pH values are typically near neutral.
The alluvial (P-1) and 3rd White Sandstone (P-8) wells in Pyeatt Gulch all contain water
with field pH that is generally near neutral. The field pH values for wells GLEV-3 and GMP -1 were
near neutral in 2017 while the pH was near 9 in well GLEV-1. The 2017 monitoring did not detect
any indication of development of acidic water in the Trapper Mine ground water.
3.4 NH3 AND NO3
Concentrations of ammonia and nitrate are presented in Appendix B, starting on page B-54.
In general, concentrations of ammonia vary significantly from year to year. Wells GD -2, GD -3, GF -
4, GF -5, GF -6, GF -7, GP -2, GP -3, GP -5, GP -9 and P-8 all contained NH3 concentrations that are
greater than 1.0 mg/1 in 2017. Several of these wells are located away from mining and contain
natural levels of NH3 concentrations. All of the NH3 concentrations observed in 2017 are within the
natural range of this constituent at Trapper Mine.
All of the 2017 NO3 values were below the drinking water standard of 10 mg/l except well P-
5. Well P-5 has historically contained nitrate concentrations above 10 mg/1 and this well is dry
during most sampling events.
3.5 OTHER CONSTITUENTS
The major constituents other than bicarbonate and carbonate are presented on pages B-32
through B-42. Declines in sodium concentrations at well GF -7 occurred from 1989 to 1996 with
slightly higher values in recent years. Sodium concentrations are much smaller in backfill well GF -
Trapper Mining Company 3-9
2017 Annual Report
