(Page 2)
MINE ID#OR PROSPECTING ID#M-1977-438
INSPECTION DATE 3-11-2003 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted to determine if any remedial or reclamation measures have been conducted since the
September 12, 2002 inspection.
The site remains in substantially the same condition as specified in DMG s June 7, 2002 and September 12, 2002 inspection
reports. Concerns noted in that report appear to remain, and no response from the permittee has been received. The
concerns noted as problems in the June 7,2002 report must still be addressed as specified in the corrective actions detailed on
the last page of that report. Those problems and corrective actions are not re-stated in this report though they still exist.
Four of the six vent holes were located west of the county road on the bench above the Pickett Corral portals and waste rock
piles. Loren Wickstrom with the Durango Office of the BLM shot these locations into his GPS unit and will provide DMG with a
map of the locations. Two of the vent holes were estimated 18 inch diameter and two were estimated 12 inch diameter. All
vents were found to be open and are cased in steel pipe at the surface and possibly the entire length. Two vents of unknown
diameter were not located. One of these vents is reportedly located in the vicinity of the vents described above. The other
vent, according to a mine workings sketch map, is shown to be located north of the Blue Streak portal (lowest and most
northern portal of the Pickett Corral mine).
After this inspection, DMG learned that the BLM leases for this site have been relinquished by the leaseholder and are no
longer viable leases. BLM indicated a desire to contribute funds to reclamation of this site. They will arrange for a bat survey of
the workings and recommend using bat gate portal closures in place of the earth backfill method, if bats are found to be
frequenting the site.
In a joint DMG/BLM inspection conducted October 10, 1996, BLM archaeologists indicated that all structures on site could be
removed as they had no significant historical value and were in a poor state of repair.
An additional site inspection will be conducted in the near future to ascertain what, if any, hazardous materials and/or
explosives are located underground that need to be disposed of. The operator is instructed to remove any equipment or
supplies that the operator wishes to salvage, within 60 days of the mailing date of this report. Equipment or supplies remaining
on site after that date will be removed and/or disposed of.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology,Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E Contact Address cc:
O CE
NAME Raymond Fitzgerald 0 BL Loren Wickstrom - Durango Office
OPERATOR Grand Mesa Mining Corp. ❑ FS
STREET 350 5th Avenue, Suite 6215 ❑ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP New York, New York 10118 0 HMWMD (CH)
❑ SE
❑ WQCD (CH)
O OTHER
