NORWEST
COR PORAT ION
locations where available data indicted more than three zones of flowing fractures. The
wells were completed with a surface grout seal to allow the well to be a permanent
monitoring well structure and monitor ground water conditions throughout the life of the
quarry. The grout seal typically extends to 20 feet below the ground surface, but this
depth may be less where a shallow flow zone was identified. A typical monitoring well
diagram is included in Attachment D. The piezometer was completed with two vibrating
wire piezometers (VWP) placed at different depths and will only be used for water level
monitoring.
Handheld water quality meters will be used to collect the field parameters of pH,
temperature, conductivity, Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP), and turbidity of the water.
Static water level measurements will be collected during each of the monthly visits and
plotted to see changes over time. Field parameters and water quality samples will be
collected quarterly. Documentation during each visit will include the following, recorded
in both the field book and on sample sheets:
• Date and time of arrival at location
• Sampler initials
• Weather conditions
• GPS coordinates (NAD83) and elevation(only during the initial visit)
• Photo documentation(only during the initial visit)
• Daily instrument calibration information
• Sample collection time
• Sample bottle suite collected
• Field parameters (pH,temperature, conductivity, ORP, turbidity)
• Description of sample (color, sediment, etc.)
• Well flow rate
• Well water level
Other pertinent information will be recorded as needed to assist with characterizing the
sampling event.
2.4.1 Groundwater Sample Collection
Groundwater samples will be collected quarterly from the middle completion zone of
Compliance Well #1 (LTC-GW-1) and #2 (LTC-GW-2). All other wells and zones will
be sampled as needed. This will include a single baseline sample; additional samples
may be collected depending on the initial results and water levels observed. Prior to
TRANSIT MIX CONCRETE CO.
SURFACE WATER AND GROUNDWATER MONITORING PLAN
2-7
