Transit Mix Concrete Co.
444 E.Costilla Street,Colorado Springs,CO 80903 Office: (719)475-0700 Fax: (719)475-0226
■ Will employ linear microphones with a flat frequency response
between 2 and 200 Hz
■ Will have a digital sampling rate of at least 1024 samples per
second; and
■ Will be capable of measuring air over-pressure from 120 to 140
dB-Linear(0.0029 to 0.029 psi).
All blasts will be monitored using Industry Approved Seismograph Instruments equipped
with geophone and a microphone. The locations for the seismograph instruments are:
• One stationary unit will be located at the western edge of the property in the
location of the western gate along Little Turkey Creek Road.
• The second stationary unit will be located on the eastern edge of the property
adjacent to the eastern gate along Little Turkey Creek Road or on the quarry
access road. The location will be determined based on the closest structure to the
blast.
• The final monitoring unit will be placed perpendicular to each blast at or near the
nearest property line.
All blast monitoring will be completed by a blasting consulting firm that specializes in
blast monitoring. Monitoring records will be kept onsite for each blast and will include:
• The name of the person and monitoring firm recording and analyzing the
seismographic record '
• The type and manufacturer of the instrument
• Sensitivity of the instrument
• The date and certification of the last calibration of the instrument
• The exact location of the instrument including the date, time, and distance from
the blast
• The recorded value of the peak particle velocity and air over pressure
Flyrock Control Plan:
• Flyrock is defined as dirt, mud, stone, or fragmented rock that is propelled from
the blasting area by the force of the blast. Flyrock is never expected in a blast, but
due to the nature of explosives and unforeseen geologic anomalies it can happen.
Flyrock can be minimized or eliminated by following the blasting industries best
practices below. Transit Mix Concrete Co. demands strict adherence to the
blasting industries best practices for all blasting completed onsite. Proper blast
pattern design including proper burden and spacing based on hole size and by
ensuring there is adequate space in front of the pattern to allow fractured material
to move horizontally.
o Surveying rock face and holes drilled along front of bench.
o Determining adequate burden on explosives.
o Surveying angle drilled holes for location and deviation
15
