Forest types are defined in Appendix C,above. Parameter values are
based on averages among plots sampled within forest stands. Numbers of stands included in analysis: 74
for Basin and Range-Fast(BRF,),27 for mixed-conifer forest in other F,M[Js,and 47 for pine-oak forest.
%BA
EMU(s) %of area' by size class Minimum Minimum
Forest Type 30-46 cm >46 cm tree BA2 density of
dbh dbh large
12-18 in >18 in trees
13R1; 33.3 37
Mixed-conifer 20 >30 %30 3. 15
CP.UGM. We encourage retention of large trees.
'Pine-oak forest type: 210%of the stand BA or 4.6 m2/ha(20 ft2/ac)of BA consist of Gambol
oak 13 cm(5 in)dre.
'Pinc-oak recommendations apply only to the Mount Taylor and/or Zuni Mountains regions
within the CP EMU.
METHODS
Fieldwork for this assessment was completed in summer 2015. BIO-Logic biologist Jim Le Fevre visited
the property several times in 2015 to conduct MSO surveys, and based on his field observations, his
experience, and his knowledge of MSO habitat we determined that MSO potential habitat exists only in
the higher-elevation part of the Hitch Rack Ranch, in Section 16 including the proposed quarry site. We
defined a study area covering 536 acres in this part of the Ranch(Figures 3 and 4). Within this area we
mapped mixed conifer and pine/oak forest types, rock outcrops, and surface water features based on
observations and interpretation of high-resolution color aerial imagery and topographic maps.
Within mapped vegetation types that provide MSO habitat(mixed conifer and pine/oak forest),we used
GIS to randomly select 10 sample points, stratified so that 9 were within mixed conifer and 1 (sample
point number 3)within pine/oak,the approximate ratio of land surface covered by the 2 types in the study
