Al
..'000,01i".6, Transit Mix Concrete Co.
DRMS COMMENTS — ERIC SCOTT —ADEQUACY REVIEW OF
GROUNDWATER INFORMATION
Groundwater Quantity:
1) The Applicant should provide geologic cross section(s) perpendicular to section A-A' or
parallel to Little Turkey Creek illustrating the relative depths of the upstream well
completions, the elevation of Little Turkey Creek, completion depth of LTC-GW-01, depth
to groundwater in the pit area, and the pit floor elevation.
Response: Attachment G-2 has been revised to include a new figure (Figure 2-12)
showing a cross-section parallel to Little Turkey Creek illustrating the relative depths of the
upstream well completions, the elevation of Little Turkey Creek, completion depth of LTC-
GW-01, depth to groundwater in the pit area, and the pit floor elevation.
2) The Applicant should provide Well ID's in Table 2.3 of Attachment G-2.
Response: The well IDs have been added to Table 2.3 of Attachment G-2.
3) The Applicant should provide some discussion as to why modeling impacts are predicted to
the three domestic upstream wells even though they are located some distance upstream of
the pit and completed adjacent to Little Turkey Creek. The text previously states that water
elevations in the wells adjacent to the creek are controlled primarily by the level of the
water in the creek.
Response: Domestic groundwater wells are present in the valley bottoms of Little Turkey
Creek in Section 17 upstream of the HRR property. The water levels in domestic and
monitoring wells within the LTC valley bottoms west of the West Fault are similar to the
creek elevation, suggesting that shallow ground water levels within the LTC valley bottom
are controlled by the Little Turkey Creek water elevation. Induced recharge from Little
Turkey Creek minimizes the extent of drawdown in these wells. However, a small amount
of drawdown in the equilibrium (non-pumping) levels in these wells can still occur as a
result of diversion of groundwater flow into the quarry excavation. The three wells,
immediately to the west of the HRR property, are projected to potentially experience
between 1 and 5 feet of drawdown at the maximum extent of mining (Figure 4-2).
4) The Applicant should clarify whether any attempt has been made to measure/monitor water
levels in the adjacent domestic wells.
Response: Transit Mix has requested meetings with the Eagles Nest landowners, and these
requests have been denied. Therefore, no water levels have been measured from the nearby
locations. Water levels in domestic wells shown in new Figure 2-12 are taken from well
permit documents. Prior to commencing mining operations, water levels will be measured
as part of the pre-blast surveys, where the survey offers are accepted.
Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry(M-2017-049)
Response to Comments—March 9,2018
