Fall 2017 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mininq Areas
(Figure 2). There were no obvious cracks from which length, width, and depth measurements
could be obtained. The E -seam overburden depth at this location is approximately 600 feet.
Observations made at the same locations during our fall 2017 field visit found little remaining
evidence of the features described above. While relatively recent mechanic regrading of the road
through this reach was a significant factor in our inability to locate these same features,
observations away from the road in ungraded areas were similarly unable to identify continued
evidence (Figures 3 and 4).
Figure 1. Southward view (spring 2017) toward
the USFS gate along Traverse B -B showing
sections of soil and vegetation that had been
shoved randomly together creating uplifted and
down -dropped areas on both sides of the gate.
Figure 2. Southward view (spring 2017) away
from the USGS gate along Traverse B -B
showing additional sections of soil and
vegetation that had been shoved randomly
together after the longwall mine passed
beneath the area.
831-032.799 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
