The site's research potential has been exhausted. Evaluative testing of the site failed to
yield any definitive evidence of subsurface cultural manifestations. Artifacts appear to be
limited to surface exposures and the features do not possess potential to yield additional
information important to the prehistory of the region.
Evaluation and Management Recommendation
The site was originally field evaluated as "need data" (2014). Subsequent testing of the
site did not reveal any subsurface deposits and no indication of depth of cultural fill was
observed. Accordingly, the site is field reevaluated as not eligible for listing on the National
Register of Historic Places. No further work is recommended.
Site 5MF7795, Prehistoric Open Camp
Site 5MF7795, a prehistoric open camp, is located on a gentle slope above the drainage
of an unnamed tributary of Jeffway Gulch (Plate 12). Surrounding vegetation consists of
sagebrush, grasses, serviceberry, Gambel oak, and aspen. The site is underlain by Cretaceous
age sandstone, shale, and major coal beds of the Williams Fork formation. Soil on the site is
light brown clay loam with a depth of up to 60 inches.
Plate 12. Site 5MF7795, overview. Photo looking north-northeast.
34
