It was proposed <br />that shovel and auger testing be performed, that the site be metal detected in its entirety, and <br />dedrochronology samples be taken. The purposes of the investigations at the site were to <br />ascertain the vertical extent of the site and ascertain the nature of the subsurface cultural <br />deposits. <br />Shovel Test 1 was located beneath the poles of Feature 1, the possible wickiup, and <br />directly uphill and to the southeast of the twin aspen support trees (Figure 7). The top level of <br />soil (upper 5-7cm) is composed of duff (aspen leaves, twigs, bark, and unidentifiable vegetal <br />material).
