Site 5MF948, view of Upper Alcove <br />The rock art consists of both pictographs and petroglyphs (Plate 3), as well as both <br />narrow and wide grooves and abraded areas --typically referred to as "tool -sharpening <br />grooves." The pictographic elements were created with both red and yellowish -brown <br />pigment. In addition to the damage for bullet holes, several incidences of historic graffiti are <br />present, including a possible date of 1941.
