Under the Routt Count17 zoning resolution, the Yoast Mine permit area is currently
designated as an agriculture/forestry use area. Redesignation of the area for mining use
is accomplished by application for a Special Use Permit through the Routt County Regional
Planning Commission.
Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Approximately 200 acres of federal lands in four parcels
occur within the Yoast Mine permit area. These lands are administered by the BLM's Craig
District and are included in Management Unit 1 of the Little Snake Resource Area.
Management units in this resource area were developed based on opportunities for managing
the resource values and uses present to attain the best multiple -use prescriptions to
provide maximum benefit to the general public.
Management Unit 1 is located in the eastern portion of the resource area and contains the
majority of the federal coal planning area. This is also an area of significant oil and
gas reserves. The management objectives of the unit are to realize the potential for
coal, oil, and gas resources. Other resource uses/values within this unit are allowed
consistent with coal, oil, and gas resource development objectives. Current uses for the
four parcels within the -Toast Mine permit area include livestock grazing, wildlife,
woodland, and recreation. The parcels are currently leased for livestock grazing, coal,
and oil and gas.
References
CDOW. 1993.
