R069XY026C0—sandy Plains LRU's A 8 8 Ecologic Site--Elbert county,Colorado, <br /> Eastern Part <br /> grazing,heavy continuous grazing or excessive defoliation.Years of non-use <br /> (rest)or lack of fire will cause litter to accumulate and reduce plant density. <br /> Drier and warmer climatic conditions exist in the central portion of MLRA 69(LRU <br /> A).This area includes the eastern half of Pueblo county northern Otero,extreme <br /> northwestern Bent,western edge of Kiowa,southern edge of Lincoln and all of <br /> Crowley County.These conditions are primarily caused by a rain shadow effect <br /> from the southern Rocky Mountains.Evapotranspiration rates(atmospheric <br /> demand)will be higher In LRU A and total annual production will typically be <br /> lower. <br /> (b) Describe the relationship of the present vegetation to the soils: <br /> The plant community at this site is influenced by not only the soils, but also by climatic <br /> influences and grazing by wild and domestic animal species. <br /> The soils of this site are moderately deep or very deep.They are well drained or somewhat excessively drained with rapid to moderately <br /> slow permeability.The surface layer thickness ranges from 2 to 7 inches thick.
