reclamation. At this point in the operation, if any overburden is generated, it will be
placed close to the location requiring backfill and in mined out areas of the operation.
Topsoil and overburden will be kept separate and not mixed and each type clearly
identified in the field.
The expanded operation will consist of nine Phases,to include the remaining area in the
existing mined pit. Within each of the nine Phases, there will be 3 Sections, equaling
approximately 6 acres each. Each Section will be mined, one at a time. The total acres to
be stripped of topsoil in any given year will be approximately 6 acres in preparation for
the next mining sequence or Section. The total active mining area and area being
prepared for the next year's mining will total approximately 12 acres (two Sections).
Adding in the reclamation of a previous Section of approximately 6 acres, the total acres
undergoing mining and reclamation will be approximately 18 acres, once mining is fully
underway.
Mining will begin by finishing the excavation in the existing 110 pit area and then
proceed to the proposed first phase, Phase A-1. Phase A will be split into 3 sections as
discussed above. The remaining 8 phases will be mined in sequence as shown on the Pre-
Mine/Mine Plan Map.
(b) Earthmoving:
Earth moving consists of first removing topsoil, then any overburden and finally
aggregate (Little overburden is present with an average depth of 2 feet.) The resource
lies beneath the topsoil to a depth of 30 or more feet. Once mining is nearing completion,
the final slopes will be mined at a 3H:1 V slope. These slopes will then have topsoil
replaced and the area seeded to the approved seed mix.
(c) Water diversions and impoundment:
No diversions are planned.
There is an ephemeral drainage to the east of the proposed 112 conversion permit area. It
should not be impacted significantly by the mining operation since appropriate Best
Management Practices will be part of the proposed expansion operation.
(d) The size of the area(s) to be worked at any one time:
Total acres to be stripped in a given year will be approximately 5 - 6 acres, dependent
upon County needs.
23
