C-2009-087, operated by Peabody Sage <br />Creek Mining, LLC (PSCM). Miranda Kawcak with PSCM accompanied the the inspection. The weather was <br />clear. Much of the mine was not accessible due to snowy conditions. Maintenance items are bulleted below. The <br />Sage Creek Mine is currently in Temporary Cessation. <br />AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS – Rule 5.02.4(1): <br /> Records were checked at the Foidel Creek Mine office. See the end of this report for details. <br /> <br />FISH and WILDLIFE – Rule 4.18: <br /> The area is being utilized by elk and aswell as other animals. Many animal tracks were present around the <br />mine site, <br /> <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; <br />Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; <br />Drainage – Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br /> The upper sump, lower sump, pond 2, and Pecoco pond were observed and holding water and flowing <br />from discharge points. Pond 3 was frozen and not discharging, Pond 4 was not observed. NPDES #7, which is at a <br />ditch near the office that was not discharging. On going pond maintenance items are listed below in the general <br />mine compliance section. Culverts were under snow and ponds were mostly snow and ice covered at the time of <br />this inspection. These items should be addressed when conditions allow. <br /> <br />The broken pipe coming out of the bottom of Pond 2, as noted in the complete inspections in June 2017 and <br />August 2017, and October 2017 remains in the process of being repaired. No water was discharging from the pipe <br />at the time of inspection. The area around the pipe was frozen, Photo of repairs at time of inspection is shown
