PERMIT #: M-1998-065
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: February 7, 2018
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Hayes Pit, a 9.5 acre I l Oc sand and gravel permit operated by
Washington County. The inspection was conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS traveled to the site at
approximately 1330. DRMS made several attempts to contact Jason Lockard, the Washington County
representative, prior to this inspection but was unsuccessful. DRMS conducted the inspection unaccompanied.
Access to the site was difficult due to muddy conditions which resulted in an abbreviated inspection of the site.
GPS data confirming the permit boundary will need to be collected during a future inspection. The mining site
identification sign (Photo 1) and permit boundary markers were observed at the site. Approximately 7 acres of
the permitted remain affected at this time. The NW area of the permit has been planted with evergreen and
other trees as approved in the current reclamation plan and is now well established.
Representative photos of site conditions are attached to this report. As can be seen in the photos, areas of the
permit that have been inactive for extended periods appear to be stable and well vegetated - with the exception
of the large erosion feature shown in Photo 2 at the SE corner of the pit. This gully will need to be repaired. A
small ridge along the top edge of the excavated area to redirect runoff away from the pit excavation will likely
prevent this kind of feature from developing in the future. Evidence of more recent excavation activity within
past year was visible in the pit floor as shown in Photos 4 and 5.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Jason Lockard
Washington County
150 Ash Avenue
Akron, CO 80720
Page 2 of
