of freeboard. A water depth of less than 3.00 feet works for all slopes thereby making the design
channel cross-section the following:
• Total Depth: 5.00 Feet
• Bottom Width: 10.00 Feet
• Side slopes: 4:1
• Freeboard: 2 Feet
• Manning's n: 0.030(grassed slopes)
The computer runs are all included in Appendix 1.
Energy Dissipation
Thereare several design features that were included to accommodate Brookfield. Some were discussed
previously. Four of these relate to erosivity of flows along steep slope and mitigation of the energy
leading to erosiveness. All are summarized below and a discussion regarding erosivity of flows along
steep slopes and mitigation of energy leading to erosiveness is also given below.
• Respecting Brookfield on property drainage paths (discussed previously)
• Deep cut along the south property line (discussed previously)
• Appropriate Channel Cross-Sections carrying design flowrate (discussed previously)
• Increase of channel dimensions to accommodate energy dissipation and protection from erosive
forces
• TRM—CDOT Class 3
• Rip Rap along bank next to Brookfield
• Drill Seeded
• Check Dams
• Hydraulic Jump
• Availability of General Shale equipment and personnel for maintenance and repair
Increase of Channel dimensions
Channel dimensions were increased to handle the installation of riprap and other protective
measures for erosive forces. The underlying datum dimensions are:
o Bottom width: 14 feet
o Total channel vertical height: 7 Feet
These were not altered as various parameters were added. Riprapping everything proved to be
prohibitively expensive so a combination of various elements was included.
10 07/30/2017
