PERMIT #: M-1980-022
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: January 31, 2018
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of an Acreage Reduction Request and Surety Bond Reduction Request
submitted by Old Castle SW Group, dba United Companies on November 30, 2017. The Preston Pit Expansion
is located approximately 1 mile west of Grand Junction, Colorado in Mesa County. The site can be accessed
from the Dike Road.
The purpose of the inspection was to observe the reclamation success and determine if the November 30th
request for partial release of the reclamation permit was approvable. Based on the conditions observed
during the inspection the 47.60 Acres requested to be released has been granted. The site was graded
exceptionally well and the reclaimed slopes tie into the adjacent undisturbed slopes in a very natural looking
way. All reclaimed slopes appear to be no steeper than the required 3H:1V. The pit is now permitted to 8.9
acres. Because the permit is not totally released, you are still liable for filing annual reports and fees.
The Division recalculated the bond required and it is $32,013.30. Currently the Division holds a bond for
$69,184.43. A reduction of $37,171.13.
Noxious weeds appeared to be under control and visibly dead. There are several easements for Excel Energy
powerlines within the released area as well as a couple of permanent structures, including a boat ramp. These
structures were approved in a Technical Revision in 2012.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the inspection are included at the end of this report.
No problems or violations were noted or observed during the January 31, 2018 inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone no. 970-242-5025.
