PERMIT #: M-2004-078
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: January 24, 2018
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage release inspection for the Lupton Lakes site, a 112c sand and gravel quarry permitted by
Denver Water and operated by Martin Marietta Materials (MMM). The inspection was conducted by Eric Scott
of DBMS. DRMS met onsite with Brad Piede of Denver Water and accompanied him on a tour of the site.
AR02, submitted to DRMS on January 17, 2018, requests the release of two areas totaling approximately 2.66
acres. These areas were originally intended to be utilized as injection well sites for groundwater, but were never
utilized or otherwise affected by mining.
The first area is located east of WCR 27 adjacent to the southeast corner of Pond 1. This area has been
developed as a commercial structure by a third party since the mining permit was approved. The second area is
located across from the site entrance to the south of WCR 6 and is still in use as agricultural land. Release
notices were sent out by DRMS on January 17, 2018. No comments or objections to the release of these areas
has been received to -date. DRMS will approve the release of these two unaffected areas and the release will
become final 30 days after the decision date if no objections are received. Please make sure that all future maps
and submittals to DRMS reflect the new permit boundary and acreage.
Within the permit area, mining activity is progressing rapidly and appeared to be in compliance with the
approved plan at the time of the inspection. The site appears to be well run and maintained. The slurry wall
liner of Pond 1 has been installed and approved by SEO and the excavation has been properly sloped and
appears stable. Excavation activity is currently taking place in Pond 2. No problems or issues were noted
during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Brad Piede
Denver Water
1600 W. 12th Ave,
Denver, CO 80204
Page 2 of
