Request for Technical Revision — US 287 Geotechnical Investigation
Boring Completion and Anticipated Groundwater Conditions
Borings will be reclaimed as work progresses. After reaching final depth, the cored bedrock section (when
applicable) will be backfilled with bentonite chips; the remainder of the hole will be backfilled with drilling
cuttings. It is estimated that to advance the H03 coring system, up to 100 gallons of water could be used to
recover 10 feet of bedrock. Depending on the drilling method, the water may be recirculated in a mud pan
in an attempt to reduce loss or the water will remain on the surface where the boring is drilled.
At this time, Yeh does not plan or intend to monitor groundwater in the Quarry. Groundwater is not
anticipated to be encountered in any of the planned geotechnical borings due to the relatively shallow
nature of the borings and deep local drawdown within the adjacent strip pits. If drilling encounters
suspected contaminated subsurface conditions, drilling will be immediately halted, cuttings will be
contained on site for proper disposal, the boring will be backfilled with bentonite to full depth, and the
property owner will be notified.
Attachments
Boring Location Plans
