DEERE & AULT
CONSULTANTS, INC.
January 17, 2018
Mr. Elliott R. Russell
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Adequacy Review#3 Response TR-04; Pueblo East Pit, Permit File No. M-2000-041;
D&A Job No. CG-0212.010.00
Dear Mr. Russell:
This letter response has been prepared by Deere &Ault Consultants, Inc. (D&A) to address the
adequacy items to the Division's satisfaction that are listed in your letter of January 16, 2017 to
John P. Ary.
26.In response to Adequacy Review Item #24, the Operator has defined the completion of
the slurry wall construction, however did not address the Division's recommendation
to conduct monthly monitoring for one year after completion of the slurry wall
followed by quarterly monitoring. Monthly monitoring for the first full year will help
precisely define the seasonal groundwater regime and understand immediate
groundwater mounding effects. Please address if the Operator intends to conduct
monthly monitoring for at least one year after the completion of the slurry wall before
sampling on a quarterly basis for the life of mine.
The Operator will conduct monthly monitoring for one year following completion of
the slurry wall. (See revised Appendix H)
27. Within the revised/updated Appendix E Groundwater Impact Analysis, the Operator
states if the depth of groundwater in the proposed Monitoring Well#8 approaches 4
feet, the groundwater mounding mitigation drain will be designed and installed.
However, within Appendix H Groundwater Monitoring Plan, the Operator states this
to be 6 feet. Please correct this discrepancy and provide the trigger point at which the
drain will be designed and installed.
The trigger depth to groundwater is 6 feet.
