During Permit Renewal RN-07 the division requested a continuation of several climatological datasets
for the Trapper Mine. These tables and figures have been updated with data collected at Trapper via
the National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program station (CRAIG 4SW)established at the
Trapper Mine office in May of 1977. Daily temperature data and 24 hour precipitation amounts,
including snowfall are collected at this site.
Other meteorological information has been collected in the area at the Craig-Moffat Airport located
near the Yampa River south of Craig,Colorado. This station consists of an Automated Surface
Observation Station (ASOS)operated by the NWS, FAA and DOD. Observations at this site are similar to
observations taken of the CRAIG 4SW, however, elevation and topographical attributes of the site do
cause differences between the data sets. Because of these differences, only data collected at CRAIG
4SW has been used to update this section, as they are more relevant to the site conditions of the mine
site.
During the period of March 2015 to March 2016 a meteorological tower was operated by Trapper and
Air Resource Specialists adjacent to the Kimber Pit area at the East Panel Ready-line to gather
meteorological data for air permit modeling at the site. Wind data has been used from this station to
compare to the baseline wind data taken by Stearns-Roger at the mine site office. The annual wind data
collected at this site has been presented as Figure 2.1-3a in this section.
Tables 2.1-1a, 2.1-2a, 2.1-4a, 2.1-6a and 2.1-8a included in this section contain weather data from COOP
Station CRAIG 4SW and provide updated information. Each table represents a continuation of their
companion table with the CRAIG 4SW dataset for the period of 1978 to the most recent available data as
of 2017.
Aside from the large difference in long term precipitation recorded at the Craig weather site from 1936
to 1977 versus CRAIG 4SW, most values mimic the previous records and compliment them in regard to
the long term climate in the Craig area. The difference in precipitation can be correlated to the drop in
elevation between the prior Craig site and CRAIG 4SW site located at Trapper Mine.
2-2a
Revision: RN-0 7
Approved:
