To: Jared Ebert
Date: December 29. 2017
Page 8
Response 13
The site will be returned to its historic agricultural use as Reclaimed Pasture.
Approximately 107 acres will be reclaimed as pasture. It has been determined that
Reclaimed Pasture is the appropriate term for the reclaimed post-mining use of this site.
Comment 14
A number of topsoil berms adjacent to the south and west side of the mining area is
shown to remain on the site after mining and reclamation is complete per the Exhibit F
map. What is the purpose of these berms once reclamation is complete? Please explain
why this material will not be used for reclamation?
Response 14
The perimeter berms will be removed and used during the last phase of reclamation. The
drawings in Exhibit F (Attachment 2) have been updated to show the berms removed as
part of reclamation.
Comment 15
Section 7.3.7 of the reclamation plan indicates signage will be posted at the entrance of
the mine site indicating the area is under reclamation. Please note LRM must comply
with all of the signs and markers requirements of Rule 3.1.12 and posting a sign
indicating the area is under reclamation is not a requirement.
Response 15
LRM will comply with all of the sign and marker requirements of Rule 3.1.12. This will
include the sign at the mine entrance and the boundary monuments of the affected area.
Comment 16
Please explain how topsoil will be replaced on graded slopes to assure the stability of the
replaced topsoil such as roughening final grading to eliminate slippage zones.
Response
Backfilled slopes will be cross-ripped horizontal to the slope to assist in anchoring topsoil
after final slope grading and prior to placement of topsoil. The spacing of the ripping
shanks will be approximately three feet, and penetration should not exceed 12 inches in
depth. Topsoil shall not be placed on frozen, extremely wet, or smooth slopes.
A minimum of six inches of topsoil will be uniformly redistributed over all reclaimed
surfaces as activity is completed in the phase. Mechanical site preparation will be done
Response to DBMS comments T E L E S T
