/.
v:mt'-4
U MEMORANDUM 9400Station Street
~~ Suite 3O0
To: John ShifOet1—CC&V Lone Tree, CU80l24
From: Eric Nieb|er—Nex»Fie|ds T: 720.5O833OO

720
Project: High Grade Mill (HGK4) Platform Extension F .5O8.3339
N Project No: 475.0106.019
Subject: Select Structural Fill Compaction Method Specification
Date: AugustO4, 3017
.........
...
.......
__ _........
.......
Schnnueser Associates (Schrnueser) used Select Structural Fill (SSF) to perform site grading
during the construction of the High Grade K4i|| /HGK4\ platform extension. All fills constructed
` '
~~ with SSF were placed using method specification that was developed during construction. The
CQA Monitor observed and approved a method specification for the HGK4 platform extension
project. The use of this method compaction technique was necessary as the fill materials used
contained more than ]O percent rock above the %-inch sieve, classifying it as a rock fill. Based
on site experience and anticipated fill materials, a method specification was developed for a 10-
N tmnvibratorysmmo1hdrumcmmpactmr.
The method specification was developed by first preparing an area to receive material that was
firm, unyielding, and representative of actual fill placement conditions. The desired lift
thickness /12 inches) was then placed and moisture conditioned. A grid was surveyed and
marked across each test pad by the surveyor allowing the same points to be checked
repeatedly. One pass was made and the points were checked for any change in elevation. This
was repeated until less than W elevation change was noted after at least four consecutive
passes. Two lifts were tested for each method specification and this process was performed for
each lift. It was found that in conjunction with the specified lift size, four passes of the 10-tmn
vibratory smooth drum roller would be sufficient for compaction in the method specification.
A test pit was then excavated in the center of the test pad and observed by the [CA monitor.
Difficulty of excavation, fill uniformity, and fill material durability were inspected and found to
be acceptable. Photographs of the method specification development are attached to this
memo. The [C\A Monitor accepted the method specification and all fills constructed with SSF
were performed in accordance with both the method specification and project technical
specifications.
Page
