type and the improved pasture/sub-irrigated type (pursuant to Rule 4.15.7(4)(b)).
Revegetation success for cover in the reclaimed portions of the haul road corridor will
be demonstrated by comparing the all -hit herbaceous cover in the haul road corridor
reference area to the all -hit total vegetation cover of the reclaimed lands within the haul
road corridor. The vegetation cover in the reclaimed area haul road corridor will be
considered successful if it is not less than 90 percent of the cover standard with 90
percent statistical confidence.
Production
Reclamation success for production in the shrub grassland reclaimed areas will be
evaluated by comparing herbaceous production in the reclaimed area to the weighted
average herbaceous production in the extended reference area. Herbaceous production
will be estimated by clipping the current year's above -ground biomass in randomly
located '/2 m2 to 1 m2 sample plots.
Production will not be evaluated within the concentrated tree and shrub establishment
sites, due to the emphasis on woody plant establishment and concerns with competition
from herbaceous vegetation. These locations are intended to establish "islands" of
higher shrub and tree densities and are of small areal extent.
Herbaceous production in the reclaimed mesic drainage type will be determined by
comparison with the weighted mean herbaceous production of the mesic drainage and
improved pasture/sub-irrigated vegetation types.
Production standard of the permanently reclaimed portions of the haul road corridor will
be based on average herbaceous production in the haul road corridor reference area.
Species Diversity
The proposed assessment of adequately diverse vegetation composition at the Yoast
Mine will utilize the following four tests. Success is demonstrated by passing at least
two of the three Alternative Tests (B, C, or D) plus the Mandatory Test (A). The tests
are described in detail in Tab 22, Revegetation Plan.
Mandatory Test A: No Overwhelming Dominant
No single plant species may exceed 60% relative cover.
Alternative Test B: Total Species Density Test
This overall reclamation diversity standard will be judged based on the
species density values observed along with cover sampling in the 100 sq/m
sample plots that accompany the standard cover/species presence samples, as
compared to the species density within the reference area.
Alternative Test C: Assessment of the Distribution of Species Abundance
31
