December 12th, 2017
Ms. Amy Eschberger
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety DI11IS,OV
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 I;I'ao,6, y C!
Denver, CO 80203 4..,
Permit M-2017-049 Objection Letter
Dear Ms. Eschberger,
This letter is in regards to Transit Mix Concrete Company's application to open a new
quarry on Hitch Rack Ranch near Colorado Springs, Colorado.
My home is located at the east end of Little Turkey Creek Road. I object to this quarry
proposal for the following reasons:
• It could affect our fragile wells which get there water from-fractures granite.
Transit Mix has not proven that they will minimize impact on our wells.
• It will terribly affect the local ecosystem and wildlife to live in and migrate through
the area. Little Turkey Creek is a fragile but vibrant riparian corridor and the
quarry will be located immediately adjacent and in the creek. Thus, it will destroy
the whole south side of the corridor.
• 1 live close to the Little Turkey Creek and we will suffer the effects of noise large
quantities of dust.
• It will create a tremendous amount of traffic on highway 115, which already has a
lot of high-speed truck traffic.
• There are already three permitted quarries operating along Highway 115 that are
able to provide construction materials. They are operating well below capacity.
They all also have massive reserves in place.
Transit Mix's proposal to open a quarry does not comply with El Paso County's South-
west Highway 115 Development Plan.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best, /
Lucy Dean -
3075 Little Turkey Creek Road
Colorado Springs, CO 80926
(719) 351-1649
