rangeland use although the true post-mining land use is open rangeland and pond space and
residential.
Revegetation of the substitute topsoiled pre-law areas currently in reclamation has proven
difficult. Thus the Operator requires flexibility, with consultation from the NRCS, to change the
seeding and revegetation of these pre-law areas. Flexibility with the species of seed mix applied,
seeding method, and mulching will help ensure successful revegetation of long unreclaimed
areas. The NRCS and the DRMS will continue to be consulted on methods to achieve success on
all pre-law areas.
The revegetated area will be monitored for successful reclamation until accepted by the Division.
If revegetation failures occur prior to release, an analysis of the site will be conducted and the
area will be revegetated again as necessary. These areas will be deemed adequately reclaimed
when vegetation is established to control erosion and noxious weeds are not present in any
significant amounts and all of the conditions of Rule 3.1.10 are met.
7. Monitoring Reclamation Success
Ongoing monitoring of reclamation will require minor revisions to assure efficient and
successful reclamation. The operator plans to use the local NRCS office to assist in determining
the ability of the reclaimed land to control erosion. If minor changes or modifications are needed
to the seeding and reclamation plan, revision plans will be submitted to the Division as required.
It is hoped that the Division will provide assistance in evaluating the success of ongoing
reclamation process. All areas disturbed and reclaimed and any other important items regarding
reclamation will be submitted in annual reports to the Division.
Alma Placer Mine
December 2017 E-7
