Exhibit D MINING PLAN <br /> Mining Plan <br /> As mining progresses through mining area all available top <br /> soil will be removed prior to disturbing any area. It will <br /> either be stored for future application or will be spread over <br /> areas previously graded to final slope . This will be accomplished <br /> using a dozer and/or scraper depending on the distance that the <br /> soil is to be moved. The remaining overburden on the sandstone <br /> will then be removed and stockpiled where it will not be mixed <br /> with the topsoil . The sandstone overburden will be drilled, <br /> blasted and removed. This will involve the use of a drill and <br /> explosives . The sandstone is then crushed, stockpiled and sold. <br /> The exposed clay is then mined and stockpiled typically in an <br /> area previously mined. <br /> The primary commodities to be produced are clay, sandstone <br /> rock and borrow material . No secondary material will be mined <br /> nor are there any incidental products that will be created. <br /> The ore body (clay) consists of a plastic and flint clay. <br /> Depth from the surface to the top of the clay will vary from 10 ' <br /> to 451 . The flint clay varies from 0 ' to 10 ' thick. In some areas <br /> the plastic is present but there is no flint clay, in other areas <br /> there is flint but no plastic, and in some areas both plastic and <br /> flint are present . Underlaying the clay is another part of the <br /> Dakota sandstone formation that will become the floor of the <br /> mine . <br /> The plastic clay can be mined using conventional equipment , <br /> but the flint clay may need to be drilled and blasted first <br /> depending on its hardness . <br /> The overburden from each cut will be placed in previously <br /> mined out areas whenever possible . The entire mining sequence is <br /> in the Dakota sandstone formation. <br /> At this time there are 3 minor areas being worked in the <br /> disturbed area . Each area contains different quality and type of <br /> clays and rock. Mining is conducted in each area based on the <br /> need for each type of material . As mining is completed in each <br /> area and no further disturbance is planned the area will be final <br /> graded and reseeded for reclamation purposes . <br /> Surface water will be diverted around the affected area . A <br /> sediment basin will be maintained for storm water runoff . There <br /> will be no water diversion or impoundment . <br /> Map Exhibit C shows the current permit area and the area being <br /> added to the permit . This will stay a dry mining operation of <br /> sandstone and clay. <br /> The mining method as approved, in the 1977 permit and the 2 <br /> amendments that followed the original approvals are similar; the <br /> only changes are the utilization of more modern efficient equip- <br /> ment . The primary reason for this amendment is to add approxi- <br /> mately 1006 . 5 acres to the permit area that covers the reserves <br /> leased or owned by Summit Brick and will extend the life of the <br /> mine . The additional area has been owned or leased by various <br /> owners for the purpose of mining since the 1950 ' s . <br /> At the time of permitting we are not sure of the location of <br /> actual reserves in the mining areas so, as the mine develops, we <br /> will be investigating each mining Area and developing specific <br /> mining plans for the individual Areas .
