NON -COAL PROCESSING WASTE <br />Salvageable steel, concrete and other construction materials will be <br />removed from the mine site to a salvage yard or regulated landfill, if not <br />needed for portal backfill. Materials will be stored while awaiting removal <br />as shown on Map King II -007. <br />All debris, acid-forming and toxic -forming materials constituting a fire <br />hazard are disposed of by a local waste removal company such as Waste <br />Management. Grease, lubricants, paints, flammable liquids, etc. are <br />stored in the Fuel Storage Building (see Map King II -007) with proper <br />containment and collected on a regular basis by a certified hazardous <br />material collection company such as Safety Kleen. <br />At no time shall any noncoal mine waste be deposited in a refuse pile or <br />impounding structure, nor shall any excavation for noncoal mine waste <br />disposal be located within 8 feet of any coal outcrop or coal storage area. <br />MINE WASTE ROCK DISPOSAL <br />During normal underground mining operations, shale and <br />sandstone break away from the roof and floor of the coal seam. This <br />material was initially removed from the King I mine, and is currently <br />removed from the King II mine and placed in the existing Refuse Pile at <br />the King I mine site (see King I PAP section 2.05.3). Most of the material <br />removed from the King II mine currently originates from the area within <br />OSMRE permit CO -0106A. All mine refuse is being constructed into a <br />Refuse Pile. As of June 2017, approximately 176,000 yd3 exist. <br />Anticipated refuse production from 2017 through 2022 is approximately <br />5,000 cubic yards per year. The waste bank is currently designed to <br />accommodate up to 1,000,000 yd3. Details of design and construction <br />are given in Appendix 10(1) and are entitled Waste Bank Design <br />Summary Report, November 1993, revised December 1997, by Don R. <br />May, P.E. The location of the mine Refuse Pile is shown on Map King I- <br />007 and Mine Waste Pile Design, Plan Layout and Detail Sheet. <br />Standard Proctor tests and nuclear density tests will be performed <br />annually as detailed in Don May's aforementioned report to ensure that <br />the waste pile continues to meet the designed compaction requirements. <br />Should different types of strata be encountered during mining, these <br />tests will be repeated to ensure that no significant changes in <br />compaction are allowed. <br />MR -41, "Refuse Pile Sampling Plan", was approved September 22, 2016. <br />This revision consisted of sampling several holes bored into the Refuse <br />Pile, as well as several locations underground in and around the active <br />workings of the King II mine.
