A=COM
Technical Memorandum—3 Dam Reslope Project
October 5, 2017
Page 2
June 8, 2017
Regrading/trimming of the downstream slope of the original 3 Dam was in progress, using one
Caterpillar D8T dozer with GPS elevation control on the blade. The work started at the north
abutment and was progressing to the south, with the goal of achieving a 4H:1V finished grade. The
dozer was working from toe to crest each pass, pushing excess material uphill and across the dam
crest to form a stockpile. No placement/compaction of the excess fill had yet been started.
Typical cut was about 0.5 feet at the toe and 1 to 2 feet at the crest. The exposed material at the
base of the cut was mostly yellowish-tan, fine to coarse, silty sand tailings, with little fine gravel and
trace medium to coarse gravel-sized pieces and occasional cobble-sized rock fragments. There
were also occasional pockets of reddish-brown, clayey silt tailings (possible slimes) of generally
medium stiff to stiff consistency.
A total of approximately 150 If of the downstream slope had been regraded by day's end.
Photo 1 —View of initial grading near the north abutment on June 8 (looking south).
