Samantha,
Your weed control plan looks effective for mechanical and chemical control. For ideas on
timing and what chemicals to use on your diffused knapweed and Canada thistle, please
access the link below to the state wide weed management pocket guide.
ht p://sam.ext nsion.colostate.edu/wp-cgntgnVuploads/sites/2/2017/04fweed-
statewide.df
Some weeds, like the common mullein, will eventually learn"the height of your mower,
and go to seed/flower below the mower deck. Chemical follow up is important in those
instances. For weeds that have leaves with waxy or fuzzy coatings, a surfactant will have
to be added to the herbicide in order to be most effective.
Common mullein recommendations can be found in this pocket guide as well.
http://sam.extension.cotostate.edu/wp-content/uploadg/sites/2/2017/04/weed- itpi kin.f
Depending on what kind of areas you are controlling your weeds, you may also need to
consider overseeding with some native pasture grasses. This will help to crowd out
weeds in the future. I would recommend contacting the different NRCS offices that are in
your area for recommendations on seed mixes and planting recommendations.
For the Western part of the county, the NRCS office is located in Franktown. Their
contact number is 303-688-3042.
For the Eastern portion of the county, the NRCS office is located in Simla. Their contact
number is 719-541-2359.
Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns or would want to work
on adding more detail into your weed control plan.
Many thanks,
Kali
