Summit Brick and Tile Company Fox No 1 Clay Pit
M-1977-219 -Adequacy Response#1 November 13, 2017
will be mined 3h to lv so the wells will not be disturbed by
mining.
On Area S, south of the existing mine (Langdon- property) and the
west and north sides a 50-foot excavation setback will be
maintained from the permit line .
There are no designated setbacks for structures outside the
permit area. we believe that the 50-foot excavation setback is
adequate and that a geotechnical analysis will show that the
proposed excavation setbacks will be adequate to protect any
permanent manmade structures around the mines perimeter.
18. Please provide details of the mining and final reclamation slopes around the two
structures (dwellings located in the northern and southern portion of the permit) which
will be mined around. The Exhibit F - Reclamation Plan Map shows these slopes as the
same hatch pattern as the final slopes associated with the proposed vertical sandstone
highwalls. Please also provide details on how access to the dwellings will be maintained
during mining and re-established during reclamation.
These slopes will be mined 3h to lv so the owners will always
have access . I have labeled these slopes on the revised maps .
The cross sections through these areas show the slopes are 3h: ly.
In Area S, mining the areas east of the house would be mined last
so a new access road would be built down the east slope of the
mine across the floor and up the south side of the slope into the
yard area before the existing road is removed. In Area F, the
Ballard road will remain in place until the east side of the
setback area is mined then the new road would be built on the
floor of the mine . In this plan Summit will not mine the area
where their driveways are until replacement roads can be built .
19. The Applicant proposes to have a 40-acre phased mining/bonding operation. Please
commit to contacting the Division for approval prior to disturbing more than a total of 40
acres. The request shall include updated maps and the estimated reclamation costs that
would be required for opening the additional acreage. The Division will review and
calculate a new Finical Warranty amount, issuing a Surety Increase revision if necessary.
Once the additional amount is posted the Operator will be approved for the new acres.
Please note, the Applicant may submit a surety reduction request for specific reclamation
9'
