PERMIT #: M-1999-047
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ERR
INSPECTION DATE: March 10, 2016
OBSERVATIONS
This normal routine monitoring inspection was conducted by Elliott Russell of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety (Division). Shane and Casidee Galles, representing DRY CREEK GULCH FARMS, LLC. (Operator), were
contacted prior to the inspection, but were not able to accompany the Division.
The Adamson Bros. Mine is located approximately 2.8 miles northeast of Laird, Colorado. The Adamson Bros. Mine is a
Construction Materials 110c Reclamation Permit. The approved post -mining land use is rangeland.
No problems or possible violations were observed during the inspection. During the inspection, the sky was clear and the
ground was dry. The site appears to see relatively frequent use. At the present time it appears that the mining operation
has affected approximately 9 acres throughout the life of mine. All mining activity appeared to be within the approved
affected land boundary. There appeared to be no significant impacts to the prevailing hydrologic balance. There were
several stockpiles of product scattered around the pit floor. The internal pit haul roads and the access road appeared to be
stable and well maintained. It appears that the mining has been completed and the operation now consists of pulling
material form the pit floor. Topsoil was stockpiled on the northern and southern sides of the pit. These were stable and
vegetated. The operator is reminded to retain the topsoil as a resource for use in reclamation as it appeared some of the
topsoil has been excavated on the western side of each stockpile. There was no evidence of excessive erosion. No
noxious weeds were observed during the inspection, however, the Operator is encouraged to continue to monitor and treat
noxious weeds as they appear in the permit boundary. A mine I.D. sign was located at the entrance to the mine site. The
permit boundary was marked by fences and t -posts. The reclamation cost estimate for this site was updated during the file
review for this inspection. It was determined that the current required financial warranty amount is adequate.
The southern eastern and western side slopes of the pit were approximately 3H:1 V and the northern slope was stepper at
approximately 2H:1 V. As it appears mining has reached the pit limits, the Division recommends the operator grade the
northern pit slope to 3H:1 V and replace topsoil on the pit side slope to help speed up the reclamation process.
Inspection Contact Address
Shane Galles
DRY CREEK GULCH FARMS, LLC.
505A East 8th Ave.
Yuma, CO 80759
CC: Wally Erickson; DRMS
