PERMIT #: M-2008-030
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ERR
INSPECTION DATE: March 9, 2016
OBSERVATIONS
This normal routine monitoring inspection was conducted by Elliott Russell of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety (Division). Douglas & Patricia Sessions (Operator), was represented by Douglas Sessions.
The Sessions Pit is located in Yuma County approximately 11 miles north-northwest of Wray, Colorado, just northwest of
County Roads FF and 46.5. The Sessions Pit is a Construction Materials 112c Reclamation Permit. The primary
commodity mined at the site is sand and gravel, used for road materials. The 112c Construction Materials Reclamation
Permit was issued January 20, 2009. The approved post -mining land use is pastureland.
No problems or possible violations were observed during the inspection. During the inspection, the sky was cloudy and
the ground was dry. The site appeared to see relatively frequent use. At the present time it appears that the mining
operation has affected approximately 10 acres throughout the life of mine. All mining activity appeared to be within the
approved affected Iand boundary. The Division recommends clearly delineating the southern permit boundary (more than
the corner t -posts which are present) to ensure no off-site damage occurs to pre -permit disturbance located immediately
south of the permit boundary. The Operator stated that a portion of the historically disturbed area along the southern
permit boundary has been backfilled with overburden. Stockpiles of topsoil and overburden are Iocated northwest of the
active pit area. These stockpiles are stable and have a vegetative cover. The internal pit haul roads and the access road
appeared to be stable and well maintained. It appears that the mining operation was progressing from the southeast
portion of the permit to the southwest. There was no evidence of excessive erosion. No noxious weeds were observed
during the inspection, however, the Operator is encouraged to continue to monitor and treat noxious weeds if they
volunteer into the permit boundary. A mine I.D. sign was located at the entrance to the mine site. The permit boundary
was marked by t -posts. The reclamation cost estimate for this site was updated during the file review for this inspection.
It was determined that the current required financial warranty amount is adequate to cover the cost of the current
disturbance, however, if the mining operation increase in size, this amount may be inadequate.
