PERMIT #: M-2007-005
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: October 17, 2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Riverside Parkway Pit; DRMS file# M-2007-005. This site is
located 1 mile south of Grand Junction, Colorado in Mesa County. I, Stephanie Mitchell of the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Jerod Timothy of the City Of Grand
Junction accompanied me on the inspection.
The mine identification sign and permit boundary markers were not in place during the inspection. This is not
seen as a problem due to the current stage of reclamation.
Overall, the site appears to have been graded to match the surrounding topography. No stockpiles are in
place at the site. The amount of vegetation is not adequate at the site. The City of Grand Junction submitted
an extension request to have more time to establish vegetation. This request was approved to November 15,
2018. The City is working closely with David Chenoweth of Mountain States Reclamation, Inc. They have
completed several test plots to reduce nitrogen and saline levels without success. The next step is the
potential to bring in import material to mix with existing topsoil/compost already on site and re -seed. A
Technical Revision is required to bring in import material (overburden/topsoil) for amending the growth
medium.
It appears that the reclamation of the parts of the site are proceeding well, over the next several years the
grasses and forbs should become more prominent. These areas are sparse, small areas.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd Street, Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
phone number 970.242.5025.
